Patients

Welcome to Healthscope Pathology.

Your doctor has ordered pathology tests, which may require us to take some blood from you. We understand that this may cause anxiety to many people, this is perfectly normal. Although you may be embarrassed by your concerns, its important to let the collector know before getting blood taken, particularly if you have a tendency to become lightheaded. The collector can have you lie down in one of our collection rooms rather than in a sitting position. Keep in mind, our collectors encounter this problem all the time and can readily accommodate your fear.

Some tips include:

  • Take slow deep breaths to relax.
  • Use the power of distraction to take your mind off the procedure.
  • Turn your head away and tell the collector a funny story or joke.
  • Tell them about your children or pets, but just keep talking!
  • Do not hold your breath, tense up and stare at the needle.

Healthscope Pathology has many regionally located collection centres placed locally for your convenience. Our staff are highly trained and professional pathology collection staff, responsible for collecting the pathology samples. They are required to participate in a program of regular refresher training and are specifically trained with respect to biohazardous risks and patient confidentiality concerns.

All of our patient collection centres are licensed and accredited collection facilities equipped with state-of-the art venipuncture and pathology collection equipment. Because we believe in quality personal service, our policy is to maintain continuity of staffing in all our collection centres. Our friendly and reliable staff will be able to assist you with any questions you may have regarding your testing and collection.

To find the most convenient collection centre, simply use the Collection Centre Search function.

Once at one of our Collection Centres, our aim is to see you as soon as possible. Mornings are our busiest time and you may wish to consider a later time during the day to avoid waiting. Appointments are not necessary most of the time, however some tests have special collection requirements that may necessitate an appointment. Please ask if you are unsure.
