Gonorrhoeae
Gonorrhoea is an infection caused by a bacterium called Neisseria gonorrheae. It can affect a woman's cervix and a man's penis. It also can affect the rectal area, throat and eyes.
Symptoms
In women, gonorrhoea can cause vaginal discharge. It may also cause vaginal bleeding and pain, especially during and after sex. If the infection spreads, you may have stomach pain, nausea and vomiting, fever, chills, and sweats.
In men, it can cause a yellowish, thick discharge from the penis. It may also cause pain or discomfort when urinating or when having a bowel movement.
Gonorrhoea in the rectal area can itch and cause a yellowish, thick discharge from the rectum, usually during a bowel movement. In severe cases, it can cause pain and bleeding from the rectum.
Gonorrhoea can cause the throat to become infected if transmitted during oral sex with a person with gonorrhoea. This will cause a sore throat with swollen glands.
