Analgesic PredictAR

Analgesic PredictAR determines an individuals CYP2D6 genotype. This knowledge can help clinicians predict a person's response to commonly prescribed analgesics (analgesics are medicines that relieve pain), and therefore assists the Doctor to manage the person's pain more effectively.

Approximately 10% of the Australian population has a genetic condition that significantly reduces their ability to metabolise codeine and therefore severely compromising its desired pain relieving effect. People with this condition are also at greater risk of adverse side effects.

A smaller percentage of the population have a different variation of the condition, which means many analgesics are metabolised at a much faster rate, resulting in the active ingredient being at levels well above the therapeutic range, even though a conventional dose was prescribed.

Testing for the CYP2D6 genotype means that your Doctor can more accurately predict your response to pain medication and assist in its effective treatment.
